Mathematics Talent Quest

What's it all about?

Mathematics Talent Quest (MTQ) provides the opportunity for students to explore mathematical concepts and investigate mathematically.

A project competition for Years K -12, MTQ can be incorporated into your classroom maths programme and provides opportunities for students of all ability levels. It’s a great chance for students to work collaboratively, think outside the box and engage with maths in a hands on way.

What are the prizes?

Students have to opportunity to win up to $100 cash for first prize and up to $60 cash for second prize. There are also book vouchers and certifi cates. The top Year 11/12 Individual project receives the Cletus Oakley Medal.

Who can enter?

ANYONE! Whole Class entries are welcome for Years K - 4, pairs or small groups of three students in Years 4 -10 and Individual projects in Years 4 - 12.

What does the teacher do?

Teachers can include MTQ in their Maths Programme. Students begin projects at any time but we recommend projects are started by the start of Term 2 at the latest. Late in Term 2 the teacher collects projects and selects which projects are to be entered by the school in the State Level competition.

What's the next step?

Fill out the registration form to receive the 2010 topics details plus an information pack which includes general information about the competition, judging criteria and entry rules.

Then watch your students engage, investigate and create! Collect and judge your school projects in late June and deliver your selected state entries to the MAWA office by Tuesday 20 July.

State judging takes place 22 - 24 July. The MTQ Awards Night for prize winners
